Samuel L. Kaplan nominated Ambassador of the U.S. to Morocco

On June 19, President Barack Obama nominated Samuel L. Kaplan as Ambassador of the United States to Morocco.  If the Senate confirms him, Mr. Kaplan will be the 33rd American to occupy this position.   Biographie  (عربي)

PRESIDENT OBAMA:  Thank you very much.  Good afternoon.  I am honored to be in the timeless city of Cairo, and to be hosted by two remarkable institutions.  For over a thousand years, Al-Azhar has stood as a beacon of Islamic learning; and for over a century, Cairo University has been a source of Egypt's advancement.  And together, you represent the harmony between tradition and progress.  I'm grateful for your hospitality, and the hospitality of the people of Egypt.  And I'm also proud to carry with me the goodwill of the American people, and a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country:  Assalaamu alaykum. PAS Celebrates National Reading Day
PAS Rabat participated in the celebration of Moroccan National Reading Day through a series of programs at five different cultural centers from May 12 to May 15.  Over 150 young members of these centers participated in the programs.  Children were invited to read a book from “My Arabic Library” collection and summarize what the book’s message meant to them.  More 

 

NDI “Leaders of Tomorrow” Maghreb Women’s Program (MEPI Announcement)
MEPI is funding a new program with the National Democratic Institute, called "Leaders of Tomorrow," which is focused on developing young women civic activists in the Maghreb region.  We are particularly interested in participants from Tunisia and Libya but also would like to include young women from Algeria, Egypt and Morocco.  More

PAS celebrates Black History Month   
Assistant Information Officer Kelley Dunkelberg gave a presentation to approximately 110 high-school students about the life and lessons of Martin Luther King in honor of Black History Month. The presentation which took place in Khemisset at Lycee Institution Manar El Irfane was followed by a lively discussion about civil rights, social justice, US foreign policy.   More….
 



 

Fifth Generation of Morocco’s Access Program Launches
In January, thirty-nine new Access programs began helping 756 talented 14- and 15-year olds from disadvantaged sectors improve their English with after-school classes.  Students are recruited according to Department of State criteria.  Classes are small, very interactive, and taught in an American style.  More...

The U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section in Rabat seized the opportunity of the presence of basketball star and Harlem Globetrotter Wayne Clark in Morocco, and programmed him to give a clinic and show to young students in both Salé on January 13 at Bouazzaoui Stadium, and Tetouan on January 14 at the Urban Commune’s StadiumMore ....
