Dr. Ghiyath Nakshbendi, a professor of finance at the American University in Washington D.C. and President of the Bethesda, Maryland-based consulting firm, the Sangamore Group, was invited by the U.S. Embassy from Feb. 6-9, 2008 to lecture on financial topics.
Dr. Nakshbendi spoke in Casablanca and Rabat on a number of topics. Several groups requested a presentation on alternative banking products and the impact of the Charia on Islamic finance. Dr. Nakshbendi spoke on this topic at the school of management HEM (Ecole des Hautes Etudes de Management) in Rabat, the Department of Islamic Studies of Mohammed V University in Rabat, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Casablanca.
Dr. Nakshbendi also lectured on the cost of water in the Middle East and North Africa to an audience of experts in water management at the Secretariat d’Etat Charge de l’Eau et de l’Environnement in Rabat. Finally, he lectured on democracy and economic prosperity at ESCA (Ecole Superierure de Commerce et d’Administration) in Casablanca. Each lecture gave ample time and opportunity to the audience for a fruitful exchange with the lecturer, who eloquently answered all questions. Dr. Nakshbendi gave two radio interviews. Français
